SpiceJet plane collides with Akasa Air at Delhi airport, wings of the plane damaged
New Delhi: A SpiceJet aircraft collided with an Akasa Air aircraft during a normal taxi operation at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday. In this incident, the SpiceJet aircraft was damaged, while the Akasa Air aircraft was parked.
When and how did the accident happen?
SpiceJet’s Boeing 737-700 aircraft was taxiing when this incident occurred. The collision was so strong that the right winglet of the SpiceJet plane broke. Additionally, the left horizontal stabilizer of the parked Akasa Air aircraft was also significantly damaged. SpiceJet Airlines immediately confirmed that the affected aircraft has been grounded at Delhi airport and further technical investigation has been initiated.
Akasa Air returns to flight bay
Akasa Air flight QP 1406 was going from Delhi to Hyderabad. After a few minutes of pushback, the plane had to be brought back to the bay. The airlines said that initial investigation revealed that the Akasa plane was completely stationary when the SpiceJet plane collided with it.
“All passengers and crew have been disembarked safely. We are making alternative flight and travel arrangements for passengers traveling to Hyderabad,” an airline spokesperson said.

Both airlines said that all safety protocols were followed immediately after the incident. No passengers or crew members were injured in this collision. According to aviation rules, the exact reasons for this incident will now be investigated.
