Major accident averted at Delhi Airport: Two planes collided in the parking area, all passengers safe

New Delhi. Two planes collided in a ground handling incident at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday. A Boeing 737 aircraft of SpiceJet touched a parked Akasa Air aircraft while taxiing. This caused damage to the right winglet of the SpiceJet aircraft, while the left horizontal stabilizer of the Akasa Air aircraft was also damaged.

SpiceJet spokesperson said that after the incident, their plane has been stopped at Delhi airport and further investigation and repair work is going on. Akasa Air said that their plane was standing stationary in the parking lot when the plane of another airline collided with it. Akasa flight QP 1406 was scheduled to go from Delhi to Hyderabad but had to be diverted back to parking due to the collision.

The airline clarified that all passengers and crew are completely safe and have been deboarded safely. The incident occurred during the pre-takeoff taxi process, so there is no threat to the life of any passenger. DGCA team is investigating the incident.
