IPL 2026: Quinton de Kock scored a century in Rohit’s absence, created a special record

The player who will score the second century in IPL 2026 has been found and it is none other than South Africa’s explosive opener Quinton de Kock. He did this feat in the 24th match of the league, where Mumbai Indians (MI) were facing Punjab Kings (PBKS). In this match, De Kock scored a stormy century in just 53 balls.

 

This century of Quinton de Kock was special because on one hand the rest of the Mumbai Indians batsmen were getting out quickly, while on the other hand de Kock managed the team’s innings by staying at the crease. Batting intelligently, he played an important role in taking the team to a respectable score. In this innings against PBKS, Quinton de Kock remained unbeaten after scoring 112 runs in 60 balls. This innings included 8 fours and 7 sixes.

De Kock created history in IPL

As soon as Quinton de Kock scored his 24th run in the 7th over of this match, he registered his name in the pages of history. Quinton de Kock has become the first foreign player to complete 3000 runs as a wicketkeeper-batsman in IPL. Now he has more than 3000 runs in his name in 100 IPL matches. He has left behind greats like Adam Gilchrist (2069 runs) and Jos Buttler (1689 runs).

De Kock should play in Rohit’s absence

Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury in the 24th match of IPL 2026 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). After this he had to retire hurt in that match. He was not included in the playing 11 of the 25th match against PBKS. Quinton de Kock was included in place of Rohit. According to media reports, Rohit will not play in the next two matches also.

Entry into the club of legends like Dhoni and Rahul

Talking about overall wicketkeeper-batsmen, De Kock has now joined the few players in the world who have shown consistency in this role. Indian legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni is on top in this list with more than 5000 runs. Apart from Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are the only players who are ahead of De Kock. De Kock has now become the only foreign face to join this exclusive club.
