AI technology of Punjab Police, crime control will be strengthened, partnership with IIT Ropar

Punjab News: Bhagwant Mann government has taken an important step towards implementing Artificial Intelligence based policing system by partnering with Indian Institute of Technology Ropar to further intensify its crackdown on organized crime.

The objective of this initiative is to create a structured database of criminals and strengthen operations like ‘Gangstr Te War’ and ‘Yudh Nashean Viruddh’ to dismantle gangster networks operating in Punjab and outside the state.

Data Intelligence and Technical Support established in Mohali

Under this collaboration, the state government in collaboration with IIT Ropar will use AI tools; With this, Punjab Police will be able to effectively map and target the network of criminals. For this project Dr. B.R. An MoU has been signed between Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences and IIT Ropar. While the data intelligence and technical support unit set up at AIIMS Mohali will coordinate among various stakeholders to take the project forward.

Dashboard-based monitoring features

Under this partnership, IIT Ropar will develop advanced software; Which will have features like data analytics, voice recognition technology and dashboard-based monitoring. This will enable real-time tracking and intelligence-based policing, which will also enable action to be taken against gangster networks operating from foreign countries.

Will be made available on the platform

This initiative will enable Punjab Police to create a comprehensive and integrated criminal database, linking both structured and unstructured data. In this, scanned PDF and handwritten records will be digitized and made available on a single platform, so that fragmented information can be accessed immediately.

Useful information through dashboard

Bhagwant Mann Government and IIT Ropar will jointly provide technical support for tracking and analysis; Through which scattered data can be converted into useful information through AI tools, predictive models and analytical dashboards. This will make the decision making process faster and more effective.

Investigation process slow due to lack of integration

Highlighting the importance of data in modern policing, the state government said that while structured data is easier to analyse; The vast majority of police records are in unstructured form, such as handwritten reports and scanned documents. Due to their lack of integration, the investigation process slows down. This project addresses this challenge by transforming unstructured records and integrating them into an integrated system with existing datasets, significantly increasing the efficiency of investigations.

Machine learning capabilities will be strengthened

A senior Punjab Police officer said, “This collaboration with IIT Ropar will strengthen the AI and machine learning capabilities of the police force. Police personnel will be better equipped to identify crime patterns, which will make the ‘War on Gangs’ campaign more effective and prevent misuse of technology by criminals.”

Gangsters operate from abroad

The officer further said, “Our aim is to stay one step ahead of criminals and target their networks. Gangsters operate from foreign countries and instigate the youth here to commit crimes. This collaboration will further strengthen the ‘detection and prevention’ of criminals through AI.

Preparation of streamlined database

This will help Punjab Police to establish a well-organized database to systematically compile information related to criminals and gangsters and effectively evaluate, interrogate and analyze the same with the help of AI-based tools.” The project also aims to bridge the gap between structured and unstructured data sources. Under this, a system is being developed which will include unstructured documents and combine them with existing structured datasets to create an integrated, well-organized database.

Public security strengthened in Punjab

This project will play a vital role in accelerating crime detection, strengthening surveillance of criminal networks and ensuring data-based prompt action, thereby further strengthening public safety in Punjab.
