Trump announced that both countries have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire, which will come into effect in the next 6 hours. Trump said he spoke to Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after which both sides agreed to a 10-day ceasefire for peace.
Posting on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that till now he has played a role in stopping 9 wars in the world. This will be his 10th major peace initiative. He told that both the countries will formally start the 10-day ceasefire from 5 pm (EST).
Face to face conversation for the first time after 34 years
Trump claimed that representatives of Israel and Lebanon met in Washington DC for the first time after 34 years. The meeting took place after more than a month of conflict, in which Iran-backed organization Hezbollah was also involved. Trump said that he has appointed the Vice President of America JD Vancehas instructed Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Dan Kane to ensure lasting peace between the two countries.
Where will the big meeting between Netanyahu and Joseph Aoun take place?
Trump also said that he would soon invite Netanyahu and Joseph Aoun to the White House. This will be the first big and important conversation after 1983. Trump claims that both countries now want peace. A permanent agreement may be reached soon.
What did Hezbollah say?
However, not all parties agree on this initiative. Hezbollah MP Hussein Hajj Hassan called the Lebanese government’s decision to hold direct talks a ‘serious mistake’. He said that Lebanon should not bow before Israel and America. It is clear from this statement that despite the ceasefire, the tension in the area has not completely ended.
