Ty Jerome remains part of Memphis’ plans going forward

After a strong 48-win campaign in 2024/25, the Memphis Grizzlies have shifted direction dramatically, moving on from key pieces like Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. following a disappointing 25-57 season.

The team now seems headed toward a deeper rebuild, raising questions about whether star guard Ja Morant could also be dealt in the offseason.

Front office leader Zach Kleiman avoided making any firm statements when discussing Morant’s future.

As noted by Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal, Kleiman’s tone differed from previous seasons, as he stopped short of labeling Morant as the franchise’s long-term centerpiece.

“I’ll reiterate Ja has been a pro,” Kleiman said. “Ja has been a pro behind the scenes the last few months here. We have had open dialogue, we’ve had respectful dialogue. I think everyone is on the same page as much as they can be in this situation. I’m not going to speculate on potential transactions.”

Meanwhile, Ty Jerome, who also dealt with injuries during the 2025/26 season, made a strong impression in limited action.

The guard, signed in free agency last summer, delivered standout production across 15 games, putting up 19.7 points and 5.7 assists in just over 22 minutes per contest while shooting efficiently.

Despite his potential appeal as a trade asset, Kleiman indicated that Jerome is likely to remain part of the team’s plans.

“I think we were all impressed with the balance Ty was able to strike as a scorer and as a facilitator,” Kleiman said. “He’s a very good basketball player. Of course, we see what he can be as part of this group.”
