Giving reservation to women is the need of the hour: PM Modi
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha on Thursday regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill. On women’s reservation, PM Modi said that the need was that when this idea came up 25-30 years ago, it should have been implemented. Today we would have taken it to much maturity. As per the need, reforms are made from time to time and this is the beauty of democracy. PM Modi said that I want this bill to be passed unanimously.
‘Going to give a new direction to the country’
PM Modi said – “Some important moments come in the life of the nation, and by capturing that moment, the state of mind of the society and the ability of leadership become the treasure of a nation, create a strong heritage. This is such a moment in the parliamentary history of India. All of us MPs should not let go of this important opportunity. We Indians together are going to give a new direction to the country. We are going to make a meaningful effort to fill our governance system with a sensitivity. I am confident that the nectar that will emerge from this churning will When it comes out, it will decide the shape of the country’s politics and will also decide the direction and condition of the country.”
‘Whoever opposes will lose the election’
PM Modi said – “Making women a part of policy making is the need of the hour. Women want to come from Panchayat to Parliament. Some people are opposing this bill because of losing their seats. Whoever opposes this bill today will pay the price for a long time. If we get this bill passed together, everyone will benefit. These people do not oppose women’s reservation in Panchayat. Whoever opposes this bill will lose the election.”
‘This is the need of the hour’
Prime Minister Modi said in the Lok Sabha on the Women’s Reservation Act, “India is moving ahead with confidence in the 21st century. I believe that developed India does not mean only good type of railways, some infrastructure, roads or some economic progress figures… We do not have a limited imagination of a developed India just because of these. We want that the mantra of Sabka Saath – Sabka Vikas should be included in the policy making of developed India. 50 percent of the country’s population should be a part of the country’s policy making, this is the time. There is a demand. We have already delayed, no matter who is responsible. We have to accept it.”
PM Modi said – “25-30 years ago, those who opposed women’s reservation did not go below the political level. Don’t make the mistake of thinking like this today. There is a political consciousness among the sisters who won in Panchayat election systems at the grass root level in the last 25-30 years. Earlier they used to remain quiet, understood but did not speak. Today they are vocal. Therefore, whatever be the opposition today, those lakhs of sisters who are represented in the Panchayat Have done this, have seen deeply the happiness and sorrow of the people, they are agitated.”
‘There is no need to give it political color’
PM Modi said – “If we all come together, history is witness to it, it will not go in favor of any one political person. It will go in favor of the country’s democracy, it will go in favor of the collective decision-making power of the country and we all will be entitled to that fame. Neither the Treasury Bank will be entitled to it nor will Modi be entitled to it. Therefore, whoever smells of politics in this, they should look at their own results of the last 30 years. Their benefit is also in this. The damage that is being caused will be saved, so there is no need to give it a political color.”
PM Modi said – “Ever since there was a discussion on women’s reservation in our country and after that, whenever elections have come, women have not forgiven anyone who has opposed this right for women. This did not happen in the 2024 elections, it did not happen because then everyone passed it unanimously, so this issue did not exist.”
‘Let us not delay much now’
PM Modi said – “In this new House in 2023, we unanimously accepted the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. An atmosphere of happiness was created in the entire country and there was no political color on it, hence it did not become a political issue. This is a good situation. Now the question is, for how long will we have to stop it? In 2023, when we were discussing this, people were saying, hurry up. It was not possible in 2024, because it could not be done in such a short time. Now we have time in 2029, we can imagine what the situation will be like in 2029. The demand of the time is that we should not delay much.
