India angry over obstruction in Strait of Hormuz, told UN – obstruction to ships will not be tolerated
India on Hormuz Crisis in UN: After the war in Iran, India has strongly raised the issue of maritime traffic being disrupted in the Strait of Hormuz in the United Nations. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Parvataneni Harish said the continued disruptions to commercial shipping passing through the Strait of Hormuz are a matter of grave concern and should be addressed immediately by the international community.
Parvataneni Harish clarified that it is essential to restore safe and uninterrupted navigation in this vital sea route as soon as possible, as it is extremely important for the global energy and trade supply chain.
Impact on sea routes due to war
India told the UN that the security of sea lanes has been seriously impacted during the recent conflict, especially following the heightened tensions in Iran and the Gulf region around February 28. India had already appealed to all concerned countries to exercise restraint, reduce tensions and give priority to the safety of civilians.
Harish said in his speech that India’s energy security and economic stability directly depend on trade through the Strait of Hormuz, as a large part of the global oil supply passes through this route. In such a situation, the impact of any kind of disruption here is felt not only at the regional but also at the global level.
It is wrong to target merchant ships
He also said that targeting merchant vessels and commercial shipping with military attacks during this conflict is completely unacceptable. India reiterated that the safety of innocent civilian crew members must be of paramount importance. During this period, the incidents of death of Indian sailors aboard many ships have further increased India’s concern.
India stressed adherence to international law, saying any obstruction, threat or military action in sea lanes is not only against the law but also a threat to global stability. India urged all parties to immediately restore normalcy and safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Solution should be found through diplomacy
Along with this, India reiterated its old policy of finding a solution to the increasing tension in Iran and the Gulf region through dialogue and diplomacy. India said that a permanent solution to any dispute is possible only through dialogue and not through military confrontation.
