Shock to Chennai Super Kings, Khalil Ahmed out of IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 due to an injury sustained during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14. The franchise gave its official information on Thursday (April 16).

This is a big blow for Chennai as the team depends on him for early successes.

Khalil has suffered a serious quadriceps injury, due to which he may have to stay out of the field for a long time. Medical tests confirmed the severity of the injury, with Khalil diagnosed with a ‘Grade 2 tear’. The injury has been described as a ‘high-grade partial tear’, which involves a strain to the right ‘rectus femoris tendon’ as well as a complete tear in the ‘direct head’ of the muscle.

Considering the severity of his injury, he has been advised long rehabilitation and it will take 10 to 12 weeks for him to fully recover. Therefore, he is out of the remaining matches of IPL 2026.

Let us tell you that MS Dhoni has also not been able to play in the first five matches due to injury. At the same time, fast bowler Spencer Johnson is also not available till the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Khalil was injured during the 17th over of the match against KKR. While running to bowl the last ball of the over, he felt pain in his right thigh. He tried to continue the over but had to leave the field due to severe pain and his over was completed by Gurjapneet Singh.
