There will be relief from scorching heat in Delhi, IMD predicts light rain, yellow alert issued
Delhiites have got hope of relief amid the scorching heat. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of light rain and thundershowers for Friday and declared ‘Yellow Alert’. Due to this, there is a possibility of getting some relief amidst the rising temperature in the capital.
What does the department say?
The city remained partly cloudy since morning, indicating a change in the weather. The department says that there may be light rain in some areas in the last part of the day. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius, which is the highest minimum temperature so far this season. The maximum temperature is likely to reach around 39 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists say that due to the cyclonic circulation over western parts of Rajasthan and Pakistan, there is dusty winds and light haze in Delhi-NCR. The dust particles coming from these areas have affected the environment, due to which the air quality has also declined.
According to experts, thunderstorms and light rain have been recorded in areas like Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu and Bikaner of Rajasthan in recent days, the effect of which is also being seen on the weather of Delhi. Skymet meteorologist Mahesh Palawat said that the temperature may increase further in the coming two to three days. According to him, the temperature in Delhi-NCR and North-West India can reach 41 to 42 degrees Celsius, due to which heat wave conditions can occur in some areas.
The effect of heat increases in the southern part
Here, the effect of heat is increasing in the southern part of the country also. In view of the scorching heat in Kerala, the Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ till April 19. According to the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, the temperature in Palakkad may reach around 40 degrees Celsius, while it is likely to go up to 39 degrees Celsius in Kollam and 38 degrees Celsius in Kottayam.
Apart from this, the temperature in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts may remain close to 37 degrees Celsius. The mercury is expected to reach 36 degrees Celsius in Thiruvananthapuram also. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in these areas may remain 2 to 3 degrees higher than normal and except the hilly areas, hot and humid weather will prevail in most places.
