Rahul Gandhi attacks the government in Lok Sabha, says – ‘Not women’s reservation, but an attempt to change the electoral map’

digital desk- During the discussion on three important bills including Nari Shakti Vandan in the Lok Sabha, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi made a sharp attack on the central government. In her speech, she raised questions about the Women’s Reservation Bill, calling it an “attempt to change the electoral map” instead of empowering women. There was a huge uproar in the House during his statement and the ruling party MPs raised strong objections. Rahul Gandhi started his speech with a personal anecdote. He said that in his childhood he was very afraid of the dark and a dog in his house used to attack him and his sister Priyanka Gandhi. He told that his grandmother Indira Gandhi locked him in the garden one day in the dark and explained that the real fear lies in our mind. Rahul said it was a big political lesson that the truth has to be faced, even if it is in darkness.

Government targeted regarding women’s reservation

After this, he targeted the government regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill and said that it is not actually a women’s bill. He alleged that the government believes in “Manuvad” more than the Constitution and is weakening the rights of OBCs, Dalits, minorities and women. Rahul said, “You call OBCs and Dalits Hindus, but do not give them their rights.” He also alleged that the government was bypassing the caste census and trying to limit representation. Rahul Gandhi said that the original Women’s Reservation Act passed in 2023 was the original one, but there was a deliberate delay in implementing it.

Kiren Rijiju interrupted

During this, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju interrupted Rahul Gandhi and raised the question why Congress did not give OBC reservation during its 60 years of rule. He also alleged that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was against OBC reservation. Rahul Gandhi also raised the issue of delimitation in his speech and said that both former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee had not implemented it, understanding its dangers. He said that the opposition will ensure that there is no tampering with the representation of the people in the “Union of India”.

The government wants to give two messages through the bill- Rahul Gandhi

Taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi said that the government wants to give two messages: first, to change the electoral map and second, to show itself as a supporter of women. He raised questions on the policies of the government by using the word “magician” in a sarcastic manner, which further increased the controversy in the House. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed strong objection to this statement of Rahul Gandhi and demanded an apology, calling it unparliamentary. At the same time, Speaker Om Birla also appealed to maintain peace in the House and use parliamentary language.
