Story of Vaishakh Purnima

Once upon a time, a Brahmin named Dhaneshwar lived with his wife Sushila in a city. He had no shortage of money yet he remained unhappy because he had no children. In the same city a saint used to come every day to beg for alms but he never went to Dhaneshwar’s house to beg for alms. Seeing this Sushila became sad. One day he asked the monk, why don’t you take alms at our house? The monk said that you do not have children, so I do not want to be guilty of sin by taking alms from you. Sushila was very sad to hear this and asked for a solution to have a child.

The sage advised him to worship Goddess Chandi for sixteen days. The couple did just that. Pleased with their devotion, Mother Chandi appeared and instructed them to observe a full moon fast. The couple observed a full moon fast and after some time they were blessed with a child.
