A video of Mohammad Ayaz (aka Tanveer), the main accused in the much-discussed sexual exploitation case that came to light in Maharashtra’s Amravati district, is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In this video, Ayaz is allegedly seen celebrating his birthday, which has raised new questions regarding the case. A large number of people are seen around Ayaz in the viral video. During the celebration, cake is being cut, fireworks are going off and people are seen congratulating him. The atmosphere looks like a celebration, which has increased the concern and anger of the people in the background of this serious matter. The biggest controversy arose when some policemen were also allegedly seen present at the spot in the video.

The police are seen standing with the accused and talking to him. This scene has raised serious questions on the role and conduct of the police.

It is noteworthy that Mohammad Ayaz is accused of alleged sexual exploitation of more than 180 minor girls in Paratwada area of Amravati. Majority of these girls come from Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist sects. According to the investigating agencies, he used to contact minors through social media platforms and lure them through so-called ‘love traps’.

According to the allegations, Muhammad Ayaz used to take the victims to cities like Mumbai and Pune and make objectionable videos. According to police sources, more than 350 such videos were recorded, which were allegedly used for blackmail. In some cases, the possibility of victims being forced into prostitution has also been raised.

The case has attracted national attention and a multi-agency investigation is underway given the possibility of a larger network. Rajya Sabha MP Anil Bonde had also submitted a memorandum to the police administration raising this issue and demanded formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

He had warned that if prompt and strict action was not taken in the matter, protests would be held. At present, no official clarification has come from the police regarding the viral video and the circumstances seen in it. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the pressure on the administration to ensure fair and strict action is increasing.
