A heartbreaking incident has come to light from Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. On Friday, a tourist van lost control and fell into a deep gorge on the Valparai-Pollachi hill road. 9 people have died in this tragic accident, while 4 others including the driver are struggling between life and death. All these tourists are said to be residents of Malappuram district of Kerala.
A terrible accident happened at the 13th hairpin bend.
According to information received from the police, a traveler tempo carrying 13 people from Malappuram, Kerala was descending from the hills of Valparai. Meanwhile, at the 13th hairpin bend, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle. The speeding van first hit the safety barrier installed on the roadside and then fell straight into a deep ditch. The collision was so strong that the van was blown to pieces.
There was screams on the spot, 8 people died there
Immediately after the accident, local people and police started rescue operations. According to Valparai police officer, 8 people died on the spot, while one died on the way to the hospital. The dead include 7 women and one man. The seriously injured driver and four other people have been admitted to the government hospital in Pollachi, where their condition is critical.

Police and fire brigade engaged in rescue work
As soon as information about the incident was received, teams of fire department and police descended into the ditch and conducted the rescue operation. Due to the inaccessible mountain road, a lot of effort had to be done in taking out the dead bodies. In the initial investigation, the reason for the accident is said to be uncontrolled vehicle, however, the police is investigating the matter in detail.
