‘If the opposition unites, Modi will lose’, Priyanka Gandhi calls women’s reservation a ‘conspiracy’

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has expressed happiness over the non-passing of the Constitution Amendment Bill related to women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha. He has said that this is the victory of democracy. Priyanka Gandhi had called it a political conspiracy. He said that the defeat of this bill is a victory for the Constitution.

Priyanka Gandhi said the bill was a conspiracy to change the federal structure and its fall is a victory for the Constitution and opposition unity. The government can immediately implement the Nari Shakti Vandan Act of 2023 on the basis of the current 543 seats in the Lok Sabha and if it does so, the opposition will support it.

Priyanka Gandhi, MP, Congress:-
The whole conspiracy was hatched to remain in power permanently in some way or the other. An attempt was made to do this work in the name of women. An attempt was made to become the Messiah of women, one has to work to become the Messiah of women.

If opposition unites Modi government will lose

Priyanka Gandhi:-
This was not about the women’s reservation bill. This matter was related to delimitation. The Modi government had to do the delimitation on such a basis that it would not need to look at the caste census data and would have complete freedom to do whatever it wants. In such a situation, it was not possible for the opposition to support the Modi government. The entire country has seen how the Modi government is defeated when the opposition unites.

What did Congress say on the purpose of the bill?

Priyanka Gandhi:-
The Women’s Reservation Bill, which was passed unanimously in 2023, should be implemented by the Modi government now and give rights to women. The entire opposition is ready for women’s reservation.

Priyanka Gandhi said that this Constitution Amendment Bill was not for women’s reservation, it was for delimitation and it was very clear that the opposition was not going to support it.

Priyanka Gandhi said, ‘The people of the country are aware, the government cannot mislead them. The people of India are seeing that the Modi government is dependent only on media and PR and crores of rupees are being spent on it. Amit Shah ji was saying yesterday that trust us, but the reality is that the public has lost faith in this government.

Priyanka Gandhi, MP, Congress:-
Government people are saying that yesterday was a dark day. Yes, it is a dark day for them because they have been shocked for the first time. If you want to implement women’s reservation, then implement the law of 2023 in which the entire opposition will support.

Priyanka Gandhi said, ‘What happened yesterday was a huge victory for democracy. The government’s conspiracy to change the federal structure and weaken democracy was stopped. This was a victory of the Constitution, a victory of the country and a victory of the unity of the opposition and this was clearly visible on the faces of the leaders of the ruling party.

Priyanka Gandhi:-
I think it is a conspiracy that somehow they have to remain in power. So to achieve this, they are planning to use women to remain in power forever. They thought if it passed they would win. If it is not passed, he will become the messiah of women by calling other parties anti-women. We know that it is not easy for women to become Messiah.

Modi government got a shock for the first time in Lok Sabha

The government wanted to bring an amendment to implement 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. This bill could not be passed by the lower house of the Parliament on Friday. The government needed a two-thirds majority, the opposition did not support.

How did the ambitious bill fail in Parliament?

The 131st Constitution Amendment Bill 2026 failed in the House. 298 votes were cast in favor and 230 against. To pass any constitutional amendment bill in the Lok Sabha, two-thirds majority is required. Modi government did not have this numerical strength. Along with this bill, the government had also placed the Delimitation Bill, 2026 and the Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 in the House for discussion and passing, but they too could not be taken forward. These bills could not be passed in the lower house itself.
