Babu arrested red handed taking bribe of Rs 60 from suspended Babu of his own department
A case of corruption has come to light in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, where a Babu posted in the municipality was arrested red handed while taking bribe from a suspended employee of his own department. Lokayukta police took action and caught the accused while taking bribe of ₹ 40,000.
According to the information, Babu Bhagwan Lal, posted in Municipality Shivpuri, had demanded ₹ 60,000 from Assistant Revenue Inspector Hari Ballabh Chandoria in exchange for reinstatement from suspension. Later the deal was finalized for ₹40,000. After this, Hari Ballabh contacted the Lokayukta police in Gwalior and lodged a complaint.
After verification of the complaint, the Lokayukta team planned the trap. Under the scheme, the complainant was given ₹40,000 and sent to the accused. As soon as Bhagwan Lal took the bribe amount, the team reached the spot and arrested him red handed.
In this matter, the police have registered a case against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation has been started. Preliminary investigation has also indicated that the role of Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) of the municipality Ishant Dhakad in this bribery scandal may also be suspicious. Lokayukta police say that the interrogation of the accused is going on and all aspects related to the case are being investigated. According to officials, further legal action will be taken after the investigation is completed.
This incident once again highlights the problem of corruption in government departments, where allegations of demanding bribes in exchange for work from employees of one’s own department keep coming to the fore.
