Sports News- Captain of this team trapped in match fixing in T-20 World Cup, audio leaked on social media
Friends, once again the shadow of fixing is seen looming over cricket, recently the International Cricket Council (ICC) has started investigating two major cases related to the Canadian national team. Shocking claims made in a CBC documentary have raised serious concerns about corruption, governance problems and possible match-fixing during the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
At the center of this controversy is a World Cup match played between the national cricket teams of New Zealand and Canada. We are closely examining the fifth over of New Zealand’s innings, which was bowled by Canadian captain Dilpreet Bajwa.
Bajwa, who was made captain just three weeks before the start of the tournament, had conceded 15 runs in that over.
That over included several ‘no-balls’ and ‘wide’ balls, which changed the course of the match.
The ICC is now investigating whether it was just poor performance, or some deliberate act related to betting.
Crisis deepened due to leaked audio recording
The controversy has been further fueled by leaked audio recordings, which point to serious irregularities within the team management.
Former coach Khurram Chauhan has alleged that senior officials of the board had pressurized him to select certain players in the team.
These recordings have quickly gone viral, raising many questions regarding transparency in team selection.
Amidst this turmoil, former coach Pubudu Dassanayake has also revealed that he too faced similar interference during the 2024 World Cup.
He claimed that he was threatened with removal from his post if he opposed such interference.
Administrative failures and financial problems
Former CEO Salman Khan has been accused of fraud and theft.
According to reports, the players faced delay in payment of the money received for the World Cup.
Many cricketers were not given professional contracts, which has exposed the structural weaknesses within the system.
