2 Indians killed in Italy, attacker flees after shooting
New Delhi. Two Indians have been shot dead outside a Gurudwara in Italy. The accused is also said to be an Indian, who fled after shooting both the people. The city of Bergamo has been sealed and a search operation is being carried out to find the attacker. The sudden firing has created an atmosphere of panic in the city. Information about the double murder has been received from Italy’s ‘La Sicilia’ newspaper. The incident took place last Friday night, shortly before midnight.
The attacker fired 10 rounds.
Gurudwara Mata Sahib Kaur Ji is situated in a warehouse in the industrial area of Bergamo city. A person fired around 10 rounds at the square in front of it. Two Indians were hit by bullets, who died on the spot. On receiving the news of the firing, the police reached the spot and took both the bodies in their custody and sent them for post-mortem. On checking the CCTV cameras, it was found that the attacker fled after firing the shots. Both the deceased belonged to the Indian Sikh community.
Shot while leaving the Gurudwara:
The deceased have been identified as Rajinder Singh and Gurmeet Singh. Eyewitnesses saw the attack and the accused fleeing in a vehicle. These eyewitnesses called the police and told them that Rajinder and Gurmeet were leaving the Gurudwara when they were shot. Another man was also shot and has been hospitalized. The accused was also a frequent visitor to the Gurudwara and had an altercation with the deceased.
According to initial reports, the Gurdwara was celebrating Baisakhi on Saturday, during which the two Sikh youths were attacked. The motive behind the attack is still being investigated. Initial investigations suggest the murders stemmed from a minor altercation
