Bitter cucumber will no longer spoil the taste of salad! Know this secret method before going to the market

Cucumber Bitterness Tricks: In the summer season, a salad plate is considered incomplete without cucumber. Cucumber not only keeps the body hydrated but the fiber and nutrients present in it provide coolness to the stomach in the scorching heat. But often a common problem is encountered while purchasing. Cucumber brought from the market turns out to be bitter. This bitterness not only spoils the taste of the entire salad but can also sometimes cause stomach pain or gas.

The main cause of bitterness in cucumber is a natural compound called cucurbitacin. This element is mainly accumulated in the stem and ends of cucumber. When we cut the end of a cucumber and rub it, the white foam that comes out is actually the same cucurbitacin.

In such a situation, the biggest question is how to find out which cucumber is sweet and which is bitter without tasting it in the market. For this you can take help of some tips.

How to identify sweet cucumber in the market

To make the right choice among the many cucumbers kept by the vegetable vendor in the market, keep these three things in mind.

  • Always choose medium dark green cucumber. If the cucumber is very dark green, it may be bitter because it may contain high amounts of cucurbitacin. Whereas yellow cucumber is overripe and tasteless.
  • Avoid buying very thick and big cucumbers. Medium-sized and thin cucumbers are often sweeter and crisper. Cucumbers that are too thick in the middle and thin at the ends are most likely to turn out bitter.
  • Try pressing the cucumber lightly. If it feels too soft then understand that it is not fresh and may turn out to be spoiled or bitter from inside.
