Thanks Shahbaz Sharif! Why did Iranian President praise Pakistan in a 45-minute phone call? Know the complete inside story
A long phone call between Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday has created a stir in international circles. In this conversation that lasted for about 45 minutes, both the leaders not only expressed their gratitude to each other, but also discussed in detail the role of Pakistan regarding peace and security in the region. Shehbaz Sharif made it clear that Pakistan will continue its efforts for regional stability.
Islamabad becomes center of peace talks
According to the statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Shehbaz Sharif especially thanked President Pezeshkian. This was thanks to Iran sending a high-level delegation led by its Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to Islamabad for talks with the US on April 11 and 12. Even though the direct talks between America and Iran remained inconclusive, Islamabad becoming the host of this historic meeting is being considered a major diplomatic achievement for Pakistan.
Trump’s announcement and hope of ceasefire
Amidst tension in the region, US President Donald Trump has raised new hopes by hinting at a second round of talks. The current ceasefire is ending on Wednesday, so an important meeting between America and Iran is likely to be held again in Islamabad on Tuesday. Trump has announced that US negotiators will reach Islamabad on Monday. However, Tehran has not yet officially confirmed its participation in this second round of meetings. It is reported that Pakistan is trying behind the scenes to convince Iran to bring it to the negotiating table.
Why did the Iranian President shower praises?
During the phone call, Shehbaz Sharif also gave the Iranian President an update on his recent meetings with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey. He assured that Pakistan is working sincerely for peace. Impressed by this activism of Pakistan, President Pezeshkian thanked Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal of Pakistan for their unwavering efforts. While reading the ballad, he said that in the coming times, the relations between Iran and Pakistan will become even stronger and deeper.
