Chaos in the Strait of Hormuz: US Navy blows up the engine room of an Iranian ship, Trump says – ‘It will be difficult to break the blockade’

The smell of gunpowder has once again started spreading in the Middle East. Tension between the US Navy and Iran has now reached its peak. US President Donald Trump made a shocking announcement on Sunday, saying that the US Navy has fired on a large Iranian-flagged cargo ship ‘Touska’ in the Gulf of Oman and captured it. It is being told that this ship was trying to break the maritime restrictions (blockade) imposed by the US Navy. The action has jeopardized the already fragile ceasefire in the area.

Trump gave complete details of the action

President Trump shared details of this military operation on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’. He wrote that the American warship ‘USS Spruance’ tried to stop the Iranian ship Tauska and had given it proper warning to stop. When the Iranian crew disobeyed orders, the US Navy targeted the ship’s engine room, blowing a hole in it and stopping it. At present this ship is in the custody of American Marines and it is being searched. The US Central Command also confirmed that the ship was heading towards Abbas port in Iran. On the other hand, Iran has threatened to retaliate, calling it a violation of the ceasefire.

Crisis looms over peace talks

The worst impact of this incident has been on the peace talks being proposed in Pakistan. The White House had earlier announced that Vice President JD Vance and other senior officials would visit Pakistan for talks with Iran. But now Tehran has taken a tough stance and said that until America removes the maritime blockade, it will not send its envoys. It is worth noting that the current ceasefire is ending on Wednesday. If it is not increased, a fierce war may break out again in the region.

Oil prices will increase worldwide

This tension between America and Iran has also shaken the global market. On Sunday, a huge jump of 7 percent was seen in the prices of crude oil in the international market. Since about 20 percent of the world’s oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz, stopping shipping here could create a major energy crisis in Asia and Europe. Iran says that it will not allow this route to open until America lifts the sanctions, while America is not ready to back down without curbing the nuclear program.

What are the real obstacles in the talks?

The biggest obstacle to peace is Iran’s uranium stock and its nuclear program. America wants Iran to give a written commitment not to make nuclear weapons. Pakistan is playing the role of mediator in this entire matter, but even after the 21-hour long discussion of the first round, no result was achieved. According to Vice President JD Vance, Iran is not ready to accept American conditions. Now after the new incident of seizure of the ship, the chances of returning to the negotiating table seem very slim.
