Mumbai Indians out of the playoff race! What equations and scenarios are being created?

Desk. This season of IPL has not been very good for Mumbai Indians. Or rather, if it is going bad then it will not be wrong. Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, the team is currently at the tenth position i.e. the last position. Meanwhile, is the season over for Mumbai Indians from now on? Is the team now out of the race for the playoffs? It has become important to know and understand what equations and scenarios are being created in the present times.

Mumbai Indians team is in a bad situation in IPL 2026. As we already told you that the team is at tenth position. Till now Mumbai has played five matches and has faced defeat in four of them. The team had won its opening match, since then the team has lost four back to back matches. Due to this his condition is poor. Now it is a total do or die situation for him. First of all, it is important to understand that if a team wants to reach the playoffs in IPL, then how many points are required.

  • Based on the experiences of IPL till now, it can be said that whenever there is a tournament of ten teams, if any team scores 16 points then it becomes much easier for it to secure its place in the playoffs. That means the team has to win 8 matches. The team still has to play nine matches. That means, if the team wins even seven out of its remaining nine matches then the job will be done and if more wins than this means the playoff is confirmed.

Now the question is that by winning seven or more matches, the team’s work will be done, but what will happen after winning less. If the team wins 6 matches from here then it will get 14 points. Earlier, teams have also reached the top 4 with 14 points, but it cannot be said with certainty. Also, the net run rate at 14 points plays a very important role, which is very bad for Mumbai right now. But a win less than this would mean that the team’s game would be over.

The problem for Mumbai is that it still has to play matches against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals. Which is running in top 4 in the table. The team must have known that it would be so easy to defeat them. It will also be beneficial for MI that teams like Punjab and RCB keep winning their matches, so that the teams which are currently in the middle of the points table are not able to run much ahead. Overall, the coming two to three matches will decide Mumbai’s position in this IPL, we will know what is going to happen next.
