After the resignation of Nitish Kumar, the post of legislature party leader was vacant. Just on April 18, Shravan Kumar has been provided Y Plus category security by the Home Ministry of Bihar. Since then it was being speculated that Shravan Kumar might get some big responsibility. Now it is believed that Shravan Kumar can get a decent ministry in Samrat Chaudhary’s government.

A meeting of JDU MLAs and Legislature members was held at Nitish Kumar’s official residence in Patna in which the names of the leader and deputy leader of the Legislature party were discussed. Shravan Kumar’s name comes among the very close and trusted people of Nitish Kumar. Shravan Kumar comes from Nalanda, the home district of Nitish Kumar and he also belongs to the Kurmi community. It is believed that to keep his Kurmi vote bank intact, Nitish Kumar has made Shravan Kumar the leader of the Legislative Assembly. Shravan Kumar has been Nitish Kumar’s companion ever since he was in Samata Party.

Shravan Kumar has been winning elections from Nalanda assembly seat continuously since 1995. When Nitish Kumar became the Chief Minister of Bihar in 2005, Shravan Kumar remained the Chief Whip of JDU. When Nitish Kumar resigned and made Jitan Ram Manjhi the Chief Minister, Shravan Kumar was not included in the government, he became angry due to this, however later when the cabinet of Manjhi government was expanded, Shravan Kumar was made a minister and he was given the Department of Rural Development and Parliamentary Affairs.
