Defense Ministry approves deal worth Rs 975 crore for T-72, T-90 tanks!

The Defense Ministry on Tuesday signed an agreement worth about Rs 975 crore with Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and Electro-Pneumatics and Hydraulics (India) Private Limited to increase the minefield penetration capability of the Indian Army.

According to an official statement, the TRAWL assembly for T-72 and T-90 tanks is a critical equipment developed by DRDO. This will significantly improve the Indian Army’s ability to penetrate landmines.

The Defense Ministry said that with the help of this equipment, safe routes can be made in areas with landmines, especially in those tunnels in which anti-tank mines and magnetic fuses are installed. This will further strengthen the operational capability of the Indian Army.

This agreement was made in the presence of Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

This procurement is an important step towards modernizing India’s defense infrastructure and will also strengthen indigenous industries. This will help in taking forward the ‘Self-reliant India’ campaign.

The statement said that this project will give a boost to the MSME sector and will also create direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, last month the Defense Ministry had signed a major agreement with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to purchase two modern mountain radars for the Indian Air Force.

This deal worth about Rs 1,950 crore is an important step towards making defense manufacturing self-reliant in the country. The agreement was signed in New Delhi in the presence of senior officials from both sides.

According to the ministry’s statement issued on March 31, under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives, the Defense Ministry has signed an agreement with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) worth approximately Rs 1,950 crore for the purchase of two mountain radars, associated equipment and necessary infrastructure. This will further increase the capabilities of the Indian Air Force.
