Big tension in West Asia: War between America and Iran may increase, attack on two ships in Hormuz
Dubai. Two ships were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday. The British Army gave this information on Wednesday. The attack has hampered efforts to bring the US and Iran together in Pakistan for talks to end the war. On Wednesday morning, Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard attacked a cargo ship, damaging the ship but causing no injuries.
The British military’s ‘United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre’ has not identified the person who shot at the second ship, but Iran is being suspected. In another case, a cargo ship reported being fired upon and grounded. He said there was no damage to the ship. Both these attacks have taken place at a time when tensions had increased following the recent action taken by the US in the Strait of Hormuz.
Last week, the US seized an Iranian container ship after a shootout and took control of an oil tanker linked to Iran’s oil trade in the Indian Ocean. Earlier on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump extended the ceasefire with Iran indefinitely on the request of mediator country Pakistan.
Trump said the move was aimed at giving Tehran’s internal conflict-ridden leadership time to prepare a proposal to end the seven-week war. This announcement has been made when the two-week ceasefire declared on April 8 was about to end in a few hours. Iran has not given any formal response to Trump’s extension of the ceasefire.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked Trump for agreeing to the extension of the ceasefire. Trump said the US would continue the blockade of Iranian ports, which Iran described as “unacceptable” and indicated that was why it had not yet agreed to attend talks in Islamabad.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Center said the attack took place in the strait at around 7:55 a.m. and targeted a container ship. The UKMTO said the guard gunboat had not given any signal to the ship before firing. He said no one was injured in the attack and there was no impact on the environment. However, Iran’s Nour News reported that the guards opened fire on the ship only after it “ignored warnings from Iranian armed forces.”
