Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayoral Election 2026: On Thursday, the BJP of Delhi Municipal Corporation Announced the names of its candidates for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor. For the post of mayor, the party has placed its trust in Pravesh Wahi, a corporator from Rohini-e ward and an experienced leader. Meanwhile, Monica Pant has been nominated for the post of Deputy Mayor. As the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided not to field a candidate for the post of mayor this time, it is now considered certain that the BJP candidate will become the mayor.

It is important to note that 59-year-old Pravesh Wahi is currently working in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) auditorium as ‘Sabhagriha Neta’ (Neta Sadan). He received his BA from Shivaji College, Delhi University in 1984. The party has chosen him for the very important post of Mayor due to his vast experience of working in Municipal Corporation and his good knowledge in administrative work.

What do the statistics say?

A total of 137 votes are required to prove a majority in the House. A total of 273 votes will be cast in this election; This includes 249 corporators, 10 members of parliament (MPs) and 14 nominated MLAs (MLAs). According to statistics, BJP appears to be in the strongest position, as it has 123 corporators and is also likely to get votes from MPs and MLAs. In contrast, the Aam Aadmi Party has 100 corporators, but has decided not to field its own candidate. Additionally, Indraprastha Vikas Party has 15 corporator seats, while Congress has 9 seats.

Major responsibilities delegated to other leaders

Apart from the posts of mayor and deputy mayor, the BJP has also entrusted some important responsibilities at the organizational level. The party has entrusted Jai Bhagwan Yadav with the dual responsibility of ‘Standing Committee Member’ and ‘House Leader’. Similarly, Manish Chadha has also been elected as a member of the Standing Committee. On the other hand, representing the Aam Aadmi Party, Jalaj Kumar Chaudhary, a corporator from Shalimar Bagh ward, has filed his nomination for the post of member of the standing committee.

Polling for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be held on April 29. Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi state president Saurabh Bhardwaj has clarified that he is giving the BJP a chance to work so that the people can have a first-hand view of their functioning.
