Political stir in Meghalaya, BJP again contacts former CM Mukul Sangma!
Hek said that BJP is making contacts with influential leaders of various parties to increase its support base in the state. He claimed that many sitting MLAs are also in touch with the party, indicating a change in the state’s politics ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
According to the BJP leader, Mukul Sangma has not rejected the proposal but has asked for time to consider it. “We have decided to give them time and will contact them again at the appropriate time,” he said.
Mukul Sangma is considered one of the most influential leaders of Meghalaya and has been under the radar of many political parties in recent months. His next step can play an important role in deciding the direction of the state’s politics.
Sangma left Congress and joined Trinamool Congress in 2021. According to sources, he is assessing the current political situation and is also in touch with leaders of other parties including Congress.
There are also speculations that they may consider forming a new regional party, although there is no official confirmation in this regard yet.
Meanwhile, A.L. Hek also claimed that at least four sitting MLAs are in touch with him and may join the BJP before the 2028 assembly elections, although he did not reveal anyone’s name.
BJP is continuously making efforts towards strengthening its hold in Meghalaya and is working on the strategy of associating influential leaders with itself. Before the upcoming assembly elections, such developments can give a new turn to the politics of the state.
