Thailand’s foreign tourist arrivals so far this year have ‌dropped 3.34% from a year earlier, the Tourism Ministry said.

From Jan. 1 to ‌April 19, the Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy received about 10.83 million foreign arrivals, it said.

Foreign tourist arrivals in 2026 are projected to fall to 31.2 million, down from 35.1 million, due to higher travel costs and weaker consumer confidence, according to a report by KKP Research, the economic research unit of the Kiatnakin Phatra Financial Group.

Tourism from Gulf countries fell to close to zero in March, as attacks from Iran closed regional airports, Reuters reported.

The number of tourists from Malaysia, another large growth engine for the critical sector, was also declining as high fuel costs kept them from driving to Thailand.

Foreign arrivals hit an ‌annual record of nearly 40 million in 2019, before the pandemic.
