LPG Price Today: Did domestic gas become cheaper or did inflation increase? New rates from Patna to Delhi surprised everyone
While petrol and diesel prices have remained stable in today’s dynamic energy market, there is mixed news for consumers on the LPG front. If you use domestic LPG cylinder, then it is a matter of relief for you that there has been no new increase in prices since the increase in March. But on the other hand, the rising prices of commercial gas cylinders are giving sleepless nights to businessmen running hotels and restaurants.
Relief in domestic cylinders, inflation hits commercial ones
The prices of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders across the country have remained stable for the last few months. Its price was last increased by Rs 60 in March 2026, after which the general public is getting relief. However, experts believe that this stability is still at a much higher level than in previous years.
At the same time, the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has spoiled the budget of the traders. Prices have increased twice so far this year. The huge increase of Rs 144 in March and then around Rs 200 on April 1, 2026, has put huge pressure on the restaurant and catering industry.
Why are gas prices increasing?
The global energy crisis is a major reason behind this instability in gas prices. Tension has increased in the Middle East after the American-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28. India is dependent on supplies via the Arabian Sea for its energy needs. Security threats through the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-third of the world’s crude and LPG pass, have increased the financial burden on import-dependent countries like India. In view of the threat to this supply chain, the government has had to change the prices.
PNG people will no longer get LPG cylinders
The government is now emphasizing on better utilization of energy resources. Under a new strategy, there has been a ban on providing or refilling new LPG cylinders to households where PNG (piped natural gas) facility already exists. Its purpose is to prevent shortage of LPG. Also, domestic refineries have been ordered to increase production to reduce dependence on foreign countries. The government is now also promoting subsidies and awareness campaigns for adoption of alternative fuels like electric cookers, induction and bio-mass.
