Big warning from NHAI
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued an alert regarding this scam. According to officials, several fake websites have been created, which look exactly like government websites. Unsuspecting users deposit money into these websites believing them to be official and genuine; However, they do not get any actual FASTag service in return.
How exactly does this FASTag fraud happen?
According to NHAI, criminals create fake websites, which look very similar to the official FASTag portal. These websites use advertising and ‘SEO’ (Search Engine Optimization) techniques to make sure they appear at the top of search engines like Google. When a user visits these sites, he is asked to provide his mobile number, vehicle registration number, bank details and payment related information. Assuming that they are on an official and secure platform, users fill in all the information asked. After that, the payment money is deposited directly into the bank accounts of the criminals. In many cases, the user receives no confirmation of payment, or only a fake receipt is given. As a result, people lose money without getting any valid FASTag service.
