Offered to do music for free

Amaal Malik told in an interview to Filmfare that the music of the film ‘Murder’, released in 2004, was initially offered to his father Dabboo Malik. Dabboo Malik was about to start work on this project and the recording process had almost started at the initial stage. However, according to Amaal, during this time his uncle Anu Malik contacted the film’s producer Mahesh Bhatt and offered to do the music of the entire film for free. After this offer the project was given from Dabboo Malik to Anu Malik.

Amaal Malik said, he even called Salman Khan and said, ‘Don’t take Dabboo, I am a better composer.’ There is a fire in him, but if in that fire you are burning your own family…as a composer I salute him, but not that much as a human being.

‘I would not have been able to have the same respect for him’

Recalling this incident, Amaal Malik said that Anu Malik is a very talented and energetic musician, but if the same energy is used to harm his own family, then its importance diminishes. He said that as a composer he salutes Anu Malik, but as a human being he cannot have the same respect for him.

Had to face mental stress and depression

This is not the first time that Amal has spoken openly about her relationship with her uncle. Even before this, he had said many times that professional competition affected his family relations. He had also alleged that due to Anu Malik’s professional strategies, his father Dabboo Malik had to face mental stress and depression.

Recalling his childhood, Amaal said that till the age of about 10-12 years, there was a close relationship between his family and Anu Malik’s family. But as soon as Dabboo Malik started working actively in the industry as a music composer, there was competition and distance in the relationships.

‘Winning matters most in the industry’

Talking further in the interview, Amaal said that with time he realized that for Anu Malik, victory in the industry matters most. Calling him a “war horse”, he said that for him it does not matter who is in front of him, be it Amaal himself, his father Daboo Malik, or other veteran musicians like Pritam and Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
