Sanjay Dutt Confirms ‘Vaastav 2’, Urges Rajkumar Hirani To Make ‘Munna Bhai’ Sequel
Mumbai: Actor Sanjay Dutt has confirmed that a sequel to his iconic film ‘Vaastav’ is in the works, while also making a heartfelt appeal to filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani to bring back the beloved ‘Munna Bhai’ franchise.
At an event where Sanjay revealed he would be producing the sequel to ‘Vaastav’, a journalist asked the actor if he had any other project in the pipeline.
“We are working on Vaastav 2. As for Munna Bhai, you’ll have to ask Rajkumar Hirani. Raju, please make Munna Bhai again!” Sanjay replied.
As the Khalnayak gears up for a sequel, filmmaker Subhash Ghai recalled at the event how Sanjay was originally cast in the film.
“When I started working on Khalnayak, the news spread in the industry. Many stars met with me and expressed interest in doing the film. But I told them, ‘I have an actor in mind already’. I invited Sanju and narrated the story. He told me, ‘Sir, I trust you. We are doing this film’,” Ghai revealed.
This left Sanjay in splits, who added, “Subhash ji, you never narrated the story. You just told me, ‘Yeh film tujhe karni hai’!”
The 1993 film ‘Khalnayak’, directed by Ghai, went on to become one of the most iconic movies of its era.
Featuring Sanjay as the infamous Ballu, along with Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff, the film stood out for its grey protagonist, blurring the line between hero and villain.
More than just a commercial hit, ‘Khalnayak’ became a cultural phenomenon.
It was one of the highest-grossing films of 1993 and earned multiple Filmfare nominations, securing its place as a memorable Bollywood classic.
