China Created AI Clone to Keep Son Alive For Elderly Mother: A case of use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has come to light in China, which has surprised people. This incident took place in China’s Shandong province, where a person died in a road accident. After her death, the family adopted a unique method to save her elderly mother from shock and created her digital avatar with the help of AI.

The family’s aim was to ensure that the 80-year-old mother, who also had a heart condition, did not go into deep shock over her son’s death. For this, he contacted Zhang Zewei, an AI expert from Jiangsu province and provided him photographs, videos and voice samples of the deceased. These also included several recordings of his conversations and local dialect.

AI avatar created with the help of photos and videos

On the basis of all this data, with the help of AI technology, a digital avatar was created which looks like the deceased person, speaks in his voice and also imitates his habits. It is reported that this avatar even mimics his physical movements like bending while talking, making it seem even more real.

This digital avatar now makes daily video calls through a chat app and interacts with the elderly mother, making her feel that her son is still connected to her. This technique is so realistic that during the conversation the mother sometimes feels that her son is actually talking to her.

one of a kind experiment

This incident has exposed a new and sensitive use of AI technology. AI is usually used for chatbots, image generation or data processing, but now it is also being used for emotional engagement and mental support. This is being considered as a unique experiment of its kind.
