DRDO flags off ‘Vikram VT-21’, India’s new leap in armored warfare capability
Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) formally flagged off the advanced armored platform ‘Vikram VT-21’ during a ceremony held in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra. This program was presided over by DRDO Chairman Sameer Kamat. The ‘Vikram VT-21’ series is a family of modern generation armored vehicles, comprising both tracked and wheeled platforms. These have been developed with the objective of enhancing the operational capability of the Indian Armed Forces to ensure better mobility, protection and lethality in various geographical conditions.
According to experts, the deployment of these platforms will significantly improve India’s mechanized warfare capability. This new system combines advanced engineering and battlefield adaptability, giving the Army an edge in rapidly changing strategic situations.
The importance of self-reliant defense technology was also emphasized during the ceremony, which is in line with the broader policy of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. The development of ‘Vikram VT-21’ is being considered an important step in this direction, as it is based on indigenous technology and will be helpful in reducing dependence on imports.
With this flag off, the process of induction of these armored platforms into service has begun. The presence of DRDO leadership at the event underlined the strategic importance of this project. Defense experts believe that ‘Vikram VT-21’ will play an important role in the modernization of the armored corps of the Indian Army in the future and will provide new strength to the country’s defense preparedness.
