After the match, DC Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao has given a big update on the condition of the player. Rao said that Ngidi’s head injury was not serious. Nevertheless, taking precaution, he was taken by ambulance to Max Hospital in Karol Bagh, where he is undergoing treatment.
How did Lungi Ngidi get injured?
In the third over of Punjab Kings’ innings, Ngidi fell backwards while trying to catch the catch of Priyansh Arya at mid-off. His head hit the ground hard. After this he immediately lay down on the ground holding his head.
The medical team immediately reached the field and the game had to be stopped for 15 minutes. Ngidi was put on a stretcher and sent to the hospital by ambulance. At that time, worry was clearly visible on the faces of the players, coaches and staff.
DC director’s official statement
After the end of the match, Venugopal Rao said, “I think this injury is not serious. Ngidi is still in the hospital. We will give further updates, but there is nothing serious.”
Emphasizing on the safety of the players, he said, “First of all, the safety of the players is important. We play cricket, but safety always comes first.” Due to Ngidi’s injury, Delhi Capitals found it difficult to defend the big score of 264 runs. The team got four overs and 24 balls less, which affected the match.
Confusion cleared on concussion substitute
Rao also gave clarification on the confusion regarding concussion substitute. He told that according to the rules only four foreign players can play. For this reason, after Dushmantha Chameera’s name came up, later Vipraj Nigam was included in the team.
Chahal expressed concern
Punjab Kings spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also expressed concern over Ngidi’s injury. He said that head injury is always dangerous. Chahal expressed hope that Ngidi would soon recover and return to the field.
Mitchell Starc’s update
Rao also told that Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc will be available for Delhi Capitals from May 1. Cricket Australia has given the report. The team will now take a decision after seeing the combination.
