Major Dhyanchand Sports University in Meerut is in the final stage, target to be completed by 31st May, will become a big center for sports education and training.
Lucknow/Meerut, Amrit Thoughts: Taking a big step towards promoting sports in the state, the construction of Major Dhyanchand Sports University of Yogi Adityanath government has reached its final stage. More than 85 percent of the construction work of this university being built in Sardhana area of Meerut has been completed and the target has been set to complete it by May 31.
About Rs 369.11 crore is being spent on this university being built on an area of about 36.98 hectares (about 91.38 acres). The project is being constructed on EPC mode, the nodal agency of which is the Public Works Department. About Rs 247 crore has been spent so far and currently the finishing work is going on at a fast pace. It is known that the aim of the state government is to make Uttar Pradesh a major sports center of the country, from where future Olympians and international players can be prepared.
Preparation to start new courses
According to University Vice-Chancellor Major General Deep Ahlawat, a meeting of the Board of Governors is proposed in May under the chairmanship of Anandiben Patel, in which new courses are likely to be approved. After this, a target has been set for admission of about 300 new students.
Will be equipped with state-of-the-art sports facilities
The university is being equipped with modern sports facilities. Synthetic athletics track, hockey ground, football ground, basketball, volleyball, handball and kabaddi grounds are being developed here. Besides, facilities like lawn tennis court, gymnasium, swimming pool, multipurpose hall and sports science lab will also be available.
Training for 22 Olympic sports will be given here. Sports like athletics, football, hockey, badminton, boxing, wrestling, yoga, judo, taekwondo and kabaddi will start this year, while shooting, archery, horse riding and other sports will be added in the next phase.
Employment and sports culture will get a boost
The university will have facilities for studies from graduation to PhD. This will include subjects like Physical Education, Sports Science, Sports Management, Sports Journalism and Adventure Sports.
According to Vice Chancellor Deep Ahlawat, the aim of this university is to prepare international level players through world class training and sports science. Besides, this will also create new employment opportunities in the area.
