Weapon Export: India dominates the global arms market by defeating Russia, Putin’s tension increased

Global India Weapon Export Market: India has emerged before the world as a very strong and big player in the arms market. In future, many Indian weapons are going to leave behind old countries like Russia in the global market. Russian journalist Vasily Golovnin said that Russia is facing tough competition in the defense market. This growing global India arms export market is also showing its influence in Russia’s traditional strongholds.

India’s defense export figure has reached a huge level of $4 billion in the year 2025. This figure is 56 times more than when Narendra Modi assumed power in 2014. According to Golovnin, since the year 2020, India has made inroads into completely new markets. India has now become not just a buyer of arms but also a major and big exporter.

Philippines becomes big customer

Today, Philippines’ share in India’s total arms exports has reached the highest at 42%. This country specially acquired ‘BrahMos’ Supersonic anti-ship missiles have been purchased in large quantities. However, BrahMos missile has been developed by India in collaboration with Russia, due to which Moscow also benefits a lot.

Armenia’s new choice

Armenia is India’s second largest customer after the Philippines, whose share has reached 32%. Until a few years ago, Armenia was completely dependent solely on Russian weapons. After the defeat in the war against Azerbaijan, Armenia started purchasing Indian weapons very rapidly.

Major weapons of India

Armenia has mainly purchased Pinaka rocket systems and Akash air defense systems from India. Apart from this, this country has also purchased important and big weapons like ATAGS howitzer from India. India’s Pinaka rocket had caused huge and heavy damage to Azerbaijan during the war.

Russia’s share decreased

According to SIPRI data, between 2011 and 2020, Russia’s stake in Armenia was 94%. But according to the new data from 2022 to 2024, India’s share in Armenia has now increased to 43%. Today India has completely become the largest and major arms supplier to Armenia.

Vietnam and other countries

Vietnam ranks third in India’s defense export market with a share of about 11%. Many countries like Indonesia and United Arab Emirates are also talking to India on BrahMos missile deal. America and many European countries have also rapidly started buying Indian weapons and weapon parts.

Russia’s trade with India

However, amid all this, Russia still remains India’s biggest arms supplier. Even today, Russia’s share in India’s total arms purchases ranges from 36% to 40%. Yet India is increasingly competing with Moscow for new export contracts in regional markets.
