New Delhi, 27 April 2026: Punjab Kings made the record of chasing the highest number of runs in the Indian Premier League. Batting first, Delhi Capitals scored 264 runs. Delhi had already registered their highest score in the IPL, and everyone expected Punjab to finally suffer their first defeat in IPL 2026.
Prabhsimran Singh created havoc for Punjab Kings by scoring 76 runs in 26 balls. Then captain Shreyas Iyer played a explosive inning of 71 runs in 36 balls, due to which Punjab completed the highest run chase till date and created history. Punjab Kings broke their own run-chasing record by scoring 265 runs against Delhi Capitals. In fact, in the 2024 season, Punjab chased the target of 262 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders. Punjab is the only team to chase a target of 250 or more in IPL, it has done so twice.
In third place is Sunrisers Hyderabad, which chased the target of 247 runs against Punjab Kings in 2025. Last season, Royal Challengers Bangalore won against Lucknow Supergiants by chasing the target of 230 runs. 2008 champions Rajasthan Royals have chased a target of more than 220 runs twice, while Mumbai Indians’ highest ever chase is 224 runs, which they made against Kolkata Knight Riders this year.
