Why is Lungi Ngidi not playing in the DC vs RCB match?

Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the DC vs RCB match of the Indian Premier League 2026 on April 27. The Proteas pacer suffered a head and neck injury in the previous contest between the Delhi Capitals and the Punjab Kings and was admitted to the hospital. Although he has been discharged from the medical facility, he is still not fit to take the field in Match 39 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. He has done well for the DC so far, and his absence will be felt in the middle and death overs at the high-scoring venue. His variations, including the slower ones, have been troubling the batters.

Delhi captain Axar Patel revealed that Lungi still has concussion symptoms and is out of the game against the RCB.

“We have made three changes, as you know what happened with Lungi Ngidi in the previous game. He is down with a concussion, so we have added Jamieson and Chameera to the playing XI. Parakh is also playing,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru skipper Rajat Patidar has won the toss and elected to bowl first against the host franchise in order to take advantage of the good batting conditions in the second innings.

“We are bowling first as it is a chasing ground. We will try to put them under pressure in the second innings. We have done well in the first half of the tournament, and it is important to maintain the momentum. Different players have performed for us in different matches. We are here to win,” he said.

Axar wanted to bowl first, and he urged his players to avoid silly mistakes to win matches.

“We have batted and bowled well, but not capitalising on small moments is impacting us. We will have to perform well as a team and execute our plans,” he said.
