‘If Modi ji wants to eat fish, I will cook it myself’ Mamata Banerjee made a sharp attack on the Prime Minister before voting.
Kolkata: The issue of food has become hot during the campaign for West Bengal Assembly elections. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that if Modi ji wants to eat fish, she will cook it for him herself. Mamta Banerjee has given this statement during a rally in Barrackpore.
Mamta’s statement
Mamta said, “If the Prime Minister wants to eat fish, I will cook it.” He also termed PM Modi’s purchase of Jhalmuri from a roadside shop in Jhargram as ‘drama’. Mamta alleges that the Jhalmuri that Modi ji ate was not prepared by the shopkeeper. He indicated that this food may have been prepared by the Special Protection Group (SPG).
TMC’s allegation, BJP’s denial
Trinamool Congress (TMC) is continuously alleging that if BJP comes to power, there will be a ban on eating fish, meat and eggs in Bengal. Mamta Banerjee is saying that the culture of Bengal is based on fish and rice and BJP wants to change it. In response to this, BJP leaders made it clear that the people of Bengal can eat whatever they want. No restrictions will be imposed.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur said that Modiji’s Jhalmuri food is an example of reaching out to small traders. He asked whether Mamata Banerjee had ever made such an effort in the last 15 years.
Promises for women also attacked
In the rally, Mamata Banerjee also mentioned the achievements of her government. He said that he has increased the Lakshmi Bhandar allowance for women to Rs 1,500. Mamta questioned that if the state government can do so much for women then why does the Prime Minister not do the same for the women of the country. He also raised questions on BJP’s ‘Matri Shakti’ scheme and said that BJP only makes false promises before elections.
New color in election environment
Prime Minister Modi is a vegetarian, but his Jhalmuri video became a topic of discussion in the elections. TMC is calling it a show-off, while BJP is considering it as an attempt to connect with the culture of Bengal. A heated debate is going on between the two parties regarding fish, Jhalmuri and food. This issue has now become a major part of the election battle for the voters of Bengal.
