20‑year‑old govt employee found dead in New Ashok Nagar flat

Delhi Police have registered a suicide case after a 20‑year‑old government employee was found dead at her rented house in New Ashok Nagar on Sunday, April 26, 2026. The woman was found hanging from a chunni (scarf) inside the room, with the door locked from the inside, police said.

Police personnel, acting on a PCR call, arrived at the flat in the D‑block area of New Ashok Nagar and found the main door secured from within. After breaking open the door, officers discovered the young woman hanging from a ceiling fan or beams inside the room, using a chunni as the ligature. No suicide note was recovered from the spot, according to initial reports.

The body has been sent for postmortem at a nearby government hospital mortuary, and the cause of death is officially pending the final autopsy report. The case is being recorded as a suspected suicide under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with further forensic and technical examination underway.

Police have cordoned off the spot and collected mobile phones, documents, and other personal items for examination. Investigators are questioning neighbours and the owner of the rented accommodation, as well as the woman’s family and workplace authorities, to piece together her recent routine and any possible triggers.

No individual has been named or arrested so far, and Delhi Police have stated that the probe is ongoing, with the final nature of the case to be confirmed only after the postmortem and forensic findings.
