The latest case is from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa area of Pakistan where Sheikh Yusuf Afridi, the top commander of terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, was shot dead by unknown assailants. He was considered close to Hafiz Saeed.
This incident happened at a time when their activities were being monitored in the area. After the attack, security agencies have termed it ‘target killing’, although no organization has yet taken responsibility for it.

The incident took place in a sensitive area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where Sheikh Yousuf Afridi was present. Meanwhile, suddenly some attackers reached there and started firing indiscriminately at them. It is being told that the attackers fired bullets from very close range, due to which Afridi did not get any chance to recover. Due to serious injuries, he died on the spot. After committing the crime, the attackers fled into the hilly area.
Pakistan’s security agencies have described this murder as target killing. Initial investigation has also indicated that the attack was planned in advance and the attackers had full knowledge of where Afridi was present.
Who was Sheikh Yusuf Afridi?
Sheikh Yousuf Afridi belonged to the Jakha Khel clan of the Khyber region and was part of the Pashtun Afridi community. He was considered to be associated with radical ideology and reportedly played an important role in the organization at the provincial level. According to sources, he is also said to be related to the close network of Hafiz Mohammad Saeed. He was accused of inspiring youth towards radicalism and connecting them with training networks.
How big a blow to Lashkar network?
This murder is being considered a big blow for Lashkar-e-Taiba. Afridi played an active role in strengthening the organization through local madrassas, mosques and tribal networks. His death is expected to affect the ground structure of the organization, especially in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region.
