WhatsApp will not work on these old phones from September 8, backup chats and data immediately

Tezzbuzz Desk – A big update has come out for crores of users using WhatsApp. Soon WhatsApp will stop working on many old Android smartphones. Meta Platforms has made it clear that from September 8, 2026, devices running versions older than Android 6.0 will not get WhatsApp support.

This means that if your smartphone is still running on Android 5.0 or Android 5.1, you may soon have trouble using WhatsApp. The company is upgrading its platform for new features, better security and smoother performance, due to which older devices will no longer be able to be a part of this change.

On which smartphones WhatsApp will be closed?

According to the report of WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is now going to end support for operating systems older than Android 6.0. This will directly affect those phones which are still running on Android 5.0 and Android 5.1. After September 8, 2026, WhatsApp will stop opening on these devices.

This decision may especially affect many users in India, Brazil, Pakistan, South East Asia and Africa, where a large number of people are still using old Android phones.

Why was this decision taken?

Meta Platforms is continuously adding new features to WhatsApp. Recently the company has been working on advanced features like notification bubbles, due to which chats will appear as floating icons on the screen.

To run such features properly, modern hardware and new Android versions are required. Old smartphones do not support these technologies. This is why the company is now increasing the minimum system requirements, so that the speed, security and user experience of the app can be improved.

How to check whether your phone is secure or not?

If you want to know whether your phone will be affected by this change or not, then first check the phone’s Settings got into. There System come on About Phone Open the section. after this System Update come on Software Information Tap on.

Here the Android version of your device will be visible.

  • If your phone is running on Android 6.0 or above, then there is no need to worry.
  • But if your version is Android 5.0 or 5.1, then WhatsApp will be closed after September 2026.

Do these things before WhatsApp gets shut down

If your phone is running on an old Android version, then the most important thing is to backup your chat history, photos, videos and important files.

For this open WhatsApp, Settings got into, Chats Tap on section, Chat Backup choose option, Back Up Now Click on

With this your data will be saved in Google Drive or local storage. The company is also sending in-app alerts to the affected users, so that important data can be secured in time.
