Who Is Ranjana Prakash Desai: Dr. Mohan Yadav’s government in Madhya Pradesh has taken a big step towards implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The state government has constituted a 6-member committee to prepare the draft for this. The Law and Legislative Affairs Department from the capital Bhopal issued an order in this regard on April 27 and shared information. The Chief Minister has instructed the officials to prepare the draft of UCC.
The government aims to implement UCC by Diwali this year. Let us tell you that UCC has already been implemented in Uttarakhand and Gujarat and now the process of implementing it has speeded up in Madhya Pradesh also. According to reports, this 6-member high-level committee will be headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai. It is noteworthy that Ranjana Desai was also given the responsibility of drafting the UCC of Gujarat and Uttarakhand.
Who is included in the drafting committee
Let us tell you that the drafting committee will be chaired by Ranjana Prakash Desai and its members include retired IAS officer Shatrughan Singh, legal expert Anup Nair, educationist Gopal Sharma and social worker Budhpal Singh. The main objective of this committee is to prepare a detailed draft to implement the Uniform Civil Code in Madhya Pradesh.
Who is Ranjana Prakash Desai?
Ranjana Prakash Desai is an eminent personality in the legal field. He started his career at the Bombay High Court and also worked with his father, renowned criminal lawyer S.G. Samant.
- Education: Received BA from Elphinstone College, Mumbai in 1970 and law degree from Government Law College in 1973.
- Early career: Justice S.C. Started law as Pratap’s junior and argued in many civil and criminal cases.
- Government Appointments: In the year 1979, she was appointed as a government lawyer in the Bombay High Court and later on ‘Preventive Detention’ Served as special government pleader for cases related to.
- Judicial Journey: She became a judge of the Bombay High Court in 1996 and was promoted to the post of Supreme Court judge in 2011.
She has handled this big responsibility in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ranjana Prakash Desai took over the chairmanship of the Authority for Advance Ruling in 2018. Desai was also the chairperson of the Delimitation Commission of India. This commission had recommended seven new assembly seats for Jammu and Kashmir, out of which six seats were proposed for Jammu and one seat for Kashmir region. After these recommendations, the total number of assembly seats in the Union Territory increased from 83 to 90.

After three states, now MP will draft UCC
Former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai has been nominated from three BJP ruled states – Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh. Had entrusted the responsibility of preparing the draft of Uniform Civil Code and now she is also going to take the responsibility of Madhya Pradesh UCC.
