Siddharth Bhardwaj, who became famous after winning the second season of MTV Splitsvilla, later stood second in ‘Bigg Boss’ season 5. He is a successful model and actor. Recently he has spoken openly about the very painful and difficult days of his childhood. His childhood was full of violence, fear and emotional suffering. After moving to Los Angeles in 2019, this year Siddharth is making a comeback on Indian television through the reality show ‘The 50’. Recently, in an interview with Kanan, Siddharth shared those painful memories of his childhood, which can make anyone’s heart ache.

Beginning of childhood in a dangerous village

Siddharth told, ‘I was born in Chanderwal village of Delhi. This village was very infamous in the 80s. Four big gangsters of Delhi were from this village. My father used to work as a hitman for those gangsters at that time. He was a good boxer, hence people knew him as ‘Billu Boxer’. He was associated with the mafia world of Delhi. When Siddharth was born, his mother clearly told his father, ‘Billu, we cannot raise this child here. This environment is not good for this. Accepting this statement of mother, father left everything. He left the village, his old world and the gangster life behind and brought the family out of that dangerous environment. But it was not so easy to change completely.

father’s mental struggle

Siddharth says, ‘Physically we went out of the village, but my father could not get out of there mentally and emotionally. His entire identity was linked to that old gangster life. Every day he would go back to his old village, sit with his old friends and talk for hours. It was very difficult for him to leave everything suddenly.

Father’s terrible accident

When Siddharth was just 9 years old, a very scary incident happened with his father. Someone pushed him down from a sixth floor building in Rohini area of Delhi. His father was badly injured in this accident. Rods were inserted all over his body and he remained bedridden for almost five years. During this entire time there was a heavy burden on the family.

Mother’s hard work and sacrifice

Siddharth tells emotionally that his mother took care of the family in this difficult time. My mother would wake up at 5-6 in the morning. First she would take her father to the bathroom, bathe him, clean him, and then put him back to bed. After that, she would cook food for us, send us to school and then herself go on foot to her job, 9 kilometers away. She did not take rickshaw because she wanted to save money and make mutton bone soup for her father. Once Siddharth asked his mother for a slingshot worth Rs 7, the mother said, ‘Not today son, I don’t have money.’ Siddharth grew up in this struggle-filled environment.

Mother’s success and father’s anger

Gradually, his mother improved her situation with a lot of hard work. He started with a job of Rs 900 a month, in which he had to distribute advertisement pamphlets. In just 5-6 years his mother became the owner of an advertising agency. But the father could not accept this change. He was first a gangster, then fell ill for a long time and when he recovered, he saw that his wife was earning more than him, his children were growing up and he had no identity left. Because of this he became very violent.

Scary atmosphere of domestic violence

Siddharth told with pain, ‘My father used to beat my mother badly. Once he punched my mother so hard in the face that all her teeth broke. All this used to happen in front of my eyes. He further says, ‘At night we would be sleeping, and father would wear his boots and kick the sleeping mother in the stomach. We used to sleep with the door closed, yet they would repeatedly come inside and beat us. We did not tell this to anyone. In school we would keep smiling and pretend that everything was fine at home. But from inside we were broken. It was as if we were dead, we didn’t feel anything.

Siddharth killed his father

When Siddhartha turned 16, the situation became unbearable. One day when his father was beating his mother again, Siddharth lost his patience. I felt that if I didn’t do anything today this would never stop. I picked up my dog’s chain and hit my father. I couldn’t see my mother getting beaten any more.

Complex feelings towards father

Despite all this, Siddharth says that he never hated his father. I always considered him a hero. No matter how much pain he caused me or my mother, he also loved me very much. I loved him even till his last days. Even when they beat my mother, I felt angry, but never hated. Siddharth’s father later died of a heart attack. His elder sister Jaya Bhardwaj is now married to Indian cricketer Deepak Chahar.
