4 New JSW-MG Electrified SUVs Launching This Year: S5 To Starlight 560

JSW MG Motor India had announced that it would be launching one new product in the market every 3 to 6 months, and last year, we saw it stay true to that promise. Even this year, MG unveiled the Majestor, and a detailed review of the same is available on our social media channels. While MG is preparing to announce the prices for the Majestor, it also has a list of electrified SUVs lined up for launch in India. Here is a list of four such upcoming SUVs from MG that are expected to be launched in the market this year.

The MG S5 is an electric SUV that will replace the current ZS EV in the Indian market. The S5 is already available internationally and looks much more premium and sleeker than the ZS EV. It features premium exterior elements such as LED headlamps, large dual-tone alloy wheels, and connected LED tail lamps.

Coming to features, the MG S5 is expected to come with a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry, satellite navigation, a wireless charger, selectable drive modes, and more.

Internationally, the S5 EV is offered with 49 kWh and 64 kWh battery pack options. MG is likely to introduce similar options in India as well. The SUV is expected to offer a claimed driving range of around 500 km.

MG Motor will be launching a rebadged version of the Wuling Starlight 560 SUV in the Indian market under a different name. It is a 7-seater SUV, and what makes it special is that it would be MG’s first plug-in hybrid model in the country. This crossover SUV will rival the Mahindra XUV700.

It is internationally offered as a 5-seater SUV, but in India, it is expected to come as a 7-seater. The MG Starlight 560 plug-in hybrid is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 20.5 kWh battery that drives a front-mounted electric motor. This setup produces a combined output of 197 hp and 230 Nm of peak torque.

MG will be launching the Starlight as both a PHEV and a pure EV. Internationally known as the Eksion EV, it is likely that MG will rename the EV for India. The Starlight 560 EV is powered by a 56.7 kWh battery pack and offers a range of around 500 km on a full charge.

Just like the PHEV, the EV version is also expected to be a 7-seater and would generate around 136 bhp and 200 Nm of torque.

The fourth MG product likely to be launched this year is the iM6 SUV. This will be a premium electric SUV that will rival models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 GT, Tesla Model Y, and the BYD Sealion 7.

Internationally, the iM6 is offered with both RWD and AWD configurations. The RWD version uses a single electric motor that generates around 408 bhp, while the AWD variant produces approximately 778 bhp and 802 Nm of torque.
