Record Voting In West Bengal Assembly Elections: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Wednesday evening congratulated the people of West Bengal for participating in the voting process in record numbers in both phases of the Assembly elections. Voting took place in the first phase on 23 April and in the second phase on 29 April. In a statement issued by the Election Commission of India, Gyanesh Kumar was quoted as saying that West Bengal has recorded the highest ever voting percentage in both the first and second phases since independence. The Election Commission congratulates every voter of West Bengal on this historic achievement.
According to data received from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, the voting percentage recorded till 7.45 pm stood at 91.66 percent. Voting participation in the first phase of West Bengal general elections was 93.19 percent. The combined voting percentage of both the phases is 92.47 percent.
EC keeps a close eye on the voting process
It was informed by the CEO office that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. SS Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, closely monitored the voting through live webcasting, which was ensured across all polling stations in West Bengal (Phase II). A source in the CEO office said this is not the final figure, as there were queues of voters at some polling stations till 6 pm, so the final voting percentage will be available by late evening or Thursday morning.
Voting was 93.19% in the first phase
The voting percentage in the final phase on Wednesday is likely to be very close to or even higher than the 93.19 per cent figure recorded in the first phase on April 23. Voting was held for 152 assembly constituencies in the first phase, while voting was held for the remaining 142 constituencies in the second phase on Wednesday. The results will be declared on May 4. The highest turnout of 93.39 percent was recorded in East Burdwan district till 6 pm. The lowest turnout was in the electoral district of Kolkata (South) at 87.25 percent.

Sporadic incidents of violence were recorded
Barring sporadic election violence and clashes in some areas of the district and Kolkata, the overall polling process was more or less peaceful. this voting central forces The polling took place under a comprehensive security arrangement of 2,407 companies, monitored by 142 general observers and 95 police observers, 84 more than in the first phase of voting.
