India-Bound Nissan Terrano PHEV: Closer Look From The Showfloor [Video]
This particular video of the Nissan Terrano PHEV has been shared on YouTube by Car Sales on their channel. It starts off with the host highlighting that this particular SUV has been showcased in China and will most likely be making its way to Australia. Although she does not talk about India, it has been reported that it will be making its debut in India as well.
The first thing that we can note is that it is not like any standard Nissan SUV that we have seen in India. In the video, the presenter highlights that this particular SUV has been developed by Dongfeng Nissan in China, and it will be part of a new strategy where Nissan will be sourcing electrified models from its Chinese joint venture.
As per the reports, the production version of this concept is expected to be on the roads in the next 12 months. However, this is the timeline for the international-spec model. The one in India will take a bit more time, which means India could also see it sometime later.
From the video, we can note that the design of the Terrano looks extremely aggressive and purpose-built. It gets a very upright stance with high ground clearance and a wide track. The concept SUV has been equipped with big, chunky off-road tyres, a lifted suspension, and extensive body cladding all around to add to the rugged appeal.

At the front and sides, this SUV has also been given multiple LED lights, including focus lamps on the bonnet. These will function as auxiliary lamps and help during night off-roading adventures. There is also a ladder on the side, like a Land Rover Defender, to access the roof.
The rear design is also equally interesting, as the tail lamps have been integrated into a spare wheel-mounted structure. This gives it a very unique identity. There are multiple flap-like elements on the tailgate with plug-in hybrid badging, which adds to the rugged appeal. Overall, the SUV looks extremely tough and capable.

It has been highlighted in the video that it will come equipped with a very strong four-wheel-drive system, high towing capacity (around 3.5 tonnes expected), and advanced off-road hardware. As for the main highlight of the new Nissan Terrano, it will be its plug-in hybrid setup. It has been reported that it will combine a petrol engine with multiple electric motors.
This electrified setup is expected to provide a power of 400 bhp and up to 800 Nm of torque. If these power figures become reality for the Indian version, it will also become one of the most powerful SUVs in its segment in India. In addition to this, it will also offer electric-only driving capability. This will add to the advantage of this SUV.

The new Nissan Terrano has once again ignited hope that Nissan might be making a serious comeback, as it will not be a company which only sells badge-engineered models. As per the reports, this SUV might be priced in the range of Rs 40 to 50 lakh. This will put it directly against the Toyota Fortuner, and if the production version comes out as close to the concept, then we will be seeing a huge battle in India in the full-size SUV segment.
