Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bat first, after which Mumbai Indians scored 159 runs for 7 wickets. Namandhir played the highest innings of 57 runs for MI. While Ryan Rickelton scored 37 runs. Whereas Anshul Kamboj took 3 wickets for Chennai Super Kings. Noor Ahmed took 2 wickets. While Jamie Overton and Ramakrishna got 1-1 success.

The start of Mumbai Indians was not anything special.

Will Jacques and Ryan Rickelton started the innings of Mumbai Indians. In the second over itself, Anshul Kamboj showed Will Jacques the way to the pavilion. Then in the last over, Anshul Kamboj gave the 7th blow to Mumbai by sending captain Hardik Pandya to the pavilion. Hardik scored 18 runs on 23 balls. Only 2 fours came off his bat.
