Prasoon Joshi becomes the new president of Prasar Bharati, how has his career been?
The Narendra Modi government at the Center made major appointments on Saturday. The government has appointed eminent lyricist and writer Prasoon Joshi as the chairman of India’s public broadcaster Prasar Bharati. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced Joshi’s appointment in an official statement on Saturday. According to the statement, Prasoon Joshi, a distinguished creative professional with wide-ranging contributions to the fields of literature, advertising, cinema and public communication, is known for his influential writings and deep cultural sensitivity.
Prasoon Joshi has written many popular film songs, advertisement writing and socially relevant stories. His writing connects with diverse audiences across the country. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on the appointment of Prasun Joshi, ‘My hearty congratulations on the appointment of Prasun Joshi as Chairman of the Prasar Bharati Board. Prasun is a prodigious creative talent who has received respect across the world in the fields of advertising, literature, art and cinema, but his heart clearly beats for India.’

Prasar Bharati will get new energy
Vaishnav said that Prasoon Joshi’s words contain the fragrance of the country’s soil and his perspective shows the eternal essence of Indian culture. The minister said, ‘Under the leadership of Prasun Joshi, Prasar Bharati will get new energy, meaningful purpose and a new creative voice. I wish him all the best for his memorable and meaningful tenure.
Joshi has been the chairman of CBFC
Prior to this appointment, Prasoon Joshi was serving as the Chairman of the Mumbai-based Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) since August 2017. The statement said that he (Prasoon Joshi) has contributed to strengthening the film certification processes by engaging with all stakeholders of the film industry and his tenure on the board reflects a balanced approach towards creative expression and regulatory responsibility.

What is Prasar Bharati?
Prasar Bharati, established under the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990 and operational since 1997, is India’s statutory autonomous public service broadcaster. Prasar Bharati has two major divisions, All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD).
AIR is one of the largest radio networks in the world and reaches millions of people across urban and rural India in multiple languages and dialects. While DD is the national television broadcaster of India, which offers a wide range of programs including news, education, entertainment and cultural content.
